Developing a good relationship with a loved one’s doctor as a caregiver is crucial in the journey with dementia. Not only do health care professionals have past experience with and more extensive knowledge concerning dementia progression, they will be a significant help along the way with resources for beneficial medications and therapies, emergencies, long-term care, and testing. The American Association of Retired Persons points out ways to maintain this working relationship with the care-receiver’s doctor, like communicating early on and throughout the journey and being firm rather than antagonistic. These are good reminders during a new, stressful, and emotional task such as caregiving.
