Fight Isolation with Comedy & Social Connection

Social isolation is an all too common occurrence for individuals living with dementia. But, it is important and beneficial to maintain relationships through the progression of the disease. As the American Society on Aging explains, humor keeps up social ties, promotes connectedness, and decreases feelings of isolation. To fight back against individuals’ loneliness, StoriiCare suggests six helpful strategies. These include time with animals or household pets, time set aside for reminiscing, and spending time with neighbors. Taking seemingly small steps toward social connection can make all the difference for someone experiencing social or physical isolation.
