When it comes to deciding who can best provide care for a loved one, sometimes conflict can arise. For some, it centers around finances, while others don’t have the time or live too far away. As the American Association of Retired Persons explains, sibling rivalry can reemerge during stressful life experiences such as this. By referring to Bernice’s interactions with her siblings about care for her mother with COPD, AARP applies suggestions for the situation and other similar cases, such as recognizing the gravity of the situation, respecting the thoughts of the care-receiver (typically the parent) with caution, working in a team and not blaming, and considering talking with a counselor.
