In the United Kingdom, some care homes have been implementing a revised version of the program called Improving Wellbeing and Health for People with Dementia, or WHELD, since the start of the pandemic. As the original is backed by research that indicated higher levels of wellbeing and quality of life for people with dementia in care homes, this new take on the program is attempting to lessen the stress, confusion, and fear that can arise with the new safety measures and COVID-19 protocol that care staff must partake in with residents, namely the wearing of personal protective equipment, or PPE. It is a proactive way to respond to the challenges that the pandemic has brought to the world. Hopefully, the trial runs will prove successful.
