When some patients with dementia do not receive the care that they need – particularly in regards to pain management, unnecessary hospitalization, and palliative care – it is crucial to investigate why. Lee & colleagues (2017) analyzed the approaches and viewpoints of staff and managers who mainly conduct the dementia care. The researchers found that, to provide successful person-centered care at the end-of-life, care providers focus largely on the family of the resident, working together and supporting each other, and emphasizing comfort. With this knowledge, care can be improved upon and avoid mistakes of the past.
